I have always loved the idea of simple dots. Rachel Castle does tons of amazing, super fun artwork and a lot of her past work were these really simple sweet watercolor dots. Honestly I don't know what I'm doing with watercolor but its pretty fun and so easy to do with a kid around. When I was in NYC a couple months ago I picked up a couple new watercolor sets from fishs eddy. They were doing an event with Todd Oldham's company Kid Made Modern. He was there too by the way, and it was awesome. He's awesome, what he's doing with kids art stuff is awesome and it was a good time being there.
When I first saw this pin from Charlotte Love for Good Homes I knew I would want to do this to Emerson's room. She had a pretty mellow nursery so when she moved into the big girl bed we thought we should update all of it. Mind you, she's only 3. 3 going on 40 but still. I am terrible with measuring so Tim helped me figure out the dimensions.
We first measured the whole wall, then I told him roughly how many boxes of color and roughly about the size I wanted each box and we figured out the sizing in between afterwards. Simple math will get you there but if you have someone to do the measuring make them. We brought home roughly 30 swatches of paint and narrowed it down.
Honestly, I know these animal figurines with party hats have been around forever, but since I am going back to the beginning of when I started pinning things (that i someday wanted to make) this one was on there. The one from Probably Actually is totally adorable. I think what really made the party were the dots. Its so easy and pretty cheap too to just add a ton of confetti, I bought these cool tubes of tissue confetti from michaels. I printed the plates and glasses with Shutterfly. Everything is topped off with pom poms instead of hats, even the marshmallows. Add some chocolate coins (gelt) and you're all set. Easy peasy!
I have had this pinned for a while and there was no better chance to try it out then NYE. Kids non toxic face paint leftover from halloween to the rescue! I tried to get a hot pink by mixing the red/white but they just wouldn't mix well. i think a glitter dot would have been a nice addition but honestly i didn't want to have to scrub it off at the end of the night. ;)
Hi. For 2018 I wanted to add something different to my site since it's mainly become my bragging rights place. I like to make things, but laziness, kid, cats, dog, excuses get in the way a lot. This is the place where I am going to push myself to be creative besides just paid gigs. Originally I was thinking of starting an entirely new site but then this am I decided to just keep it here. As many of you who know me I do this every year. A new adventure, a new thing I'm making and think its going to be huge but my follow through is not so great.
So, I'm going to start with making things from my Pinterest "can i make this?" board and a some other boards that think will be fun. I think its a good place for me to start. No pressure, everything is the way its supposed to be. If I wake up clueless, no biggie. If I want to make something original and not inspired from Pins, Go FOR IT Erin!! That's what the voice in my head will be saying. In 2018, no self doubt, only quiet confidence. Oh and if you feel like sending a job or an inquiry my way Go For it reader!!
